I am not a photographer

Back from holiday… Some rolls to be developed,  and some digital stuff to get organized.

Anyways, quite irrelevant but today I remembered something. Back in my photography class, my instructor saying; each time just before you release the shutter, always ask yourself; what am I actually taking the picture of?

This, I never do. Never.

Silly. Whatever.

Hopefully, I’ll start submitting again.

It’s finally over. I’ll be on vacation for a couple of weeks.

Since I’ll not be around for some time, I wanted to submit some silly stuff tonight. It was interesting to see, while I was browsing through some old photos, that I’ve shot so many pictures of photographers in action.

I automatically react when I see someone photographing something and take a picture of the scene regardless of any purpose.

Weird. So many photographs I’ve browsed through tonight. And from the very old negative scans, I found this one.

This is a portrait of Suha. Developed by a kid in a small lab. I remember, this was the roll that I decided to learn the film thing and process everything by myself. Thanks to my decision, now I’m able to take much better portaits of Suha;

Speaking of portaits;

Most of the people that I show my photos like this portrait of Guliz. However if I were to submit a portrait of her to some place, I guess I’d prefer this one;

since this is more… her. There could be anybody sitting in front of that window.. I don’t know.

Anyways. This is a photo of an ass;

And this is the bobosh;

Most of the time I think that the reason I like bw photography is the feel, the texture that I could only get with film. I feel like I may like any photo, no matter what the subject is or whether the compsition is balanced or not, if it has that ’feel’, if you know what I mean.

For example this photo of my mother that I’ve shot on a sunday morning breakfast;

 

is a candy for my eye not because of the subject but because of the light and the texture. As it is in the case of Guliz, in front of the window.

Of course, it is not always about that. There are some stuff I like because of the moment it captures;

What is so special with a flying bird, eh? When you capture it, it turns out to be special. A stupid bird that you would never notice while walking by.. Or a sudden look that you catch in a quite random moment;

Yay for photography.
